We believe that every child's natural talent and wisdom must be fostered. We also believe that the only way this would be possible is to move away from factory style standardized teaching-learning, and keep working at co-holding a philosophy that would be harmonious with nature within ourselves and around us.

Being Human, Natural, Related&ldots;
Wholesome relationships between teachers, children and parents form the core of Prakriya. We "work" at nurturing a culture of self-exploration, openness, warm relationships between teachers as well as between teachers, children and parents and concern for the learning and growth of everyone in the school community - not only of the children. How does one foster culture and co-hold philosophy? By constantly sharing our feelings, thoughts, concerns, by threshing out differences, by laughing together, by developing faith in everyone's humanness, by sharing experiences and not becoming absolutist followers of any one person or school of thought, by not having an authoritarian, pyramidal organisation, by being willing to learn from everywhere&ldots;. The list could go on&ldots;.

Learning from Metaphors of nature
Prakriya's philosophy is an open ended framework for searching for what is meaningful and wholesome in life. A philosophy of respect for nature's wisdom, and striving to understand metaphors of nature which could help us build better systems and communities. At one level the metaphor of ecological wisdom affirms with humility the grandeur and enduring values that unfold in nature - the nature within us, in the numberless creatures of the world, in the forests and seas and various eco systems.
The metaphors of Nature we take very seriously in Prakriya are: Diversity, Importance of the "parts" as well as the "whole", Interconnectedness / Relatedness of various parts, and the importance of "flow" - of process, rather than products or content alone.
To be governed by an "Organic" metaphor means that these principles of nature influence many of our choices and decisions in the school. Not surprisingly this philosophy of "green wisdom" is coherent with principles of education spelt out by philosophers from Tagore and Aurobindo, to J Krishnamurthy and Vivekananda and several others around the world.
